Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 351 AM EDT Thu Apr 16 2020 Valid 12Z Thu Apr 16 2020 - 12Z Sat Apr 18 2020 ...Heavy snow over parts of the Central Rockies... ...Wet snow in swath from the Central Rockies to parts of the Northeast with highest amounts over parts of Southern Iowa... ...Temperatures will be 10 to 30 degrees below average from parts of the Northern/Central Rockies to parts of Middle Mississippi Valley... A deep upper-level trough over the Rockies and cold air at the surface will aid in producing heavy snow over parts of the Central Rockies Friday. Upwards of 8-18 inches of snow is forecast across parts of Northern Colorado. Low pressure over the Central High Plains will move slow out to the Middle Mississippi Valley by Friday morning and to the Northern Mid-Atlantic Coast by Saturday. As this system exits into the Central Plains, a stripe of light to moderate wet snow is possible from Nebraska to parts of the Northeast by Friday evening and into parts of New England overnight Friday. The highest snow amounts east of the Rockies are currently expected to be across Southern Iowa, where over eight to twelve inches of snow could fall. By Friday night a mix of rain and snow is forecast to enter the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Meanwhile, temperatures across much of the Northern/Central Rockies to parts of Middle Mississippi Valley will be 10 to 30 degrees below average. Thus, widespread Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories stretch from the Middle Mississippi Valley to the Ohio Valley and into parts of the Mid-Atlantic. In contrast, Southern Florida will enjoy temperatures with highs in the low 90s. Ziegenfelder Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
