Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 333 PM EDT Fri Apr 17 2020 Valid 00Z Sat Apr 18 2020 - 00Z Mon Apr 20 2020 ...Late season heavy snows likely Friday night from the Catskills across the Berkshires, southern Green and White Mountains and into the Boston Metro region... ...A widespread Heavy Rain, Flash Flooding and Severe Weather event possible from east Texas, across the Lower Mississippi Valley and into the Southeast on Sunday... An area of low pressure moving from the northern Mid-Atlantic tonight to off the southern New England coast early Saturday will produce a stripe of late season heavy snows to its north from the Catskills, eastward across much of Massachusetts, southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire. Accumulating snows that fall across these regions will melt quickly as high temperatures Saturday are expected in the mid 40s and highs Sunday in the low 60s. The trailing cold front from this area of low pressure will push through the Southeast on Saturday and then become nearly stationary from the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Southeast on Sunday. This frontal boundary will be the focus for a widespread heavy rain, flash flooding and severe weather threat from eastern Texas, across the Lower Mississippi Valley and into the Southeast on Sunday. Portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Southeast have had heavy rains over the past few weeks that have resulted in above average stream flows. This will make these area more susceptible to flash flooding and flooding from the expected heavy rains. Relatively tranquil weather expected for the remainder of the nation over the next 2 days. Light snows possible across portions of the Sierra, Wasatch and through much of the Central and Northern Rockies. A cold front will be dropping southward out of southern Canada into the Northern Plains on Saturday and across the Upper Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes and Central Plains on Sunday. This front will have below average temperatures in its wake with high 10 to 15 degrees below average on Saturday over the Northern Plains and 10 to 15 degrees below average on Sunday across the Upper Mississippi Valley into the Upper Great Lakes. Above average temperatures in the mid to upper 80s will persist this weekend from the Central Gulf Coast into the coastal Southeast and Florida, After a relatively cool day on Saturday across South Texas, high temperatures will likely reach the low to mid 90s here on Sunday.
