Continued much below average temperatures across the northeastern quarter of the nation... Active weather expected associated with an area of low pressure moving east northeastward from the Southern Plains into the Mid Mississippi Valley Monday night and through the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic Tuesday and Wednesday. Heavy rains and isolated flash flooding possible from the Mid Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley tonight into Tuesday. Severe thunderstorms possible Monday evening from the Southern Plains into the Lower Missouri Valley. The trailing cold front from this area of low pressure will bring much cooler temperatures to the Southern Plains which has had several days of record high temperatures. High temperatures are expected to be slightly below average over the Southern Plains on Tuesday and near average on Wednesday. The core of the above average temperatures over the next two days will be from Southern California into the Southwest and Great Basin. High temperatures across these regions expected to be 10 to 15 degrees above average. In contrast, much below average temperatures will persist across the northeastern quarter of the nation from the Upper Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Mid Atlantic. Across these areas high temperatures are expected to be 10-15 degrees below average. Portions of the Upper Ohio Valley, Central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic may see record low maximum temperatures both Tuesday and Wednesday.
