A cold front will move off the East Coast bring an end to showers and thunderstorms over the region on Saturday. Locally heavy rain along the front across coastal sections of the Carolinas will also occur on Saturday. A strong upper-level low a long the Central California Coast will move northeastward across the California Saturday into Sunday, setting the stage for heavy rains and potentially severe weather. The SPC has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Pacific Northwest. The main threats will be damaging thunderstorm wind, hail, and tornadoes. Heavy rain associated with the storms will produce mainly scattered flash flooding over the same region. Because of the threat the WPC has issued a slight risk of excessive rainfall over the area. On the southeast side of this strong upper-level low, gusty winds and low relative humidities That will support Elevated to Critical fire weather conditions over portion of the Southern Great Basin. Record high temperatures are possible Saturday across the Northern Great Basin into the Northern Rockies and into the Northern High Plains on Sunday. Ahead of the area of heavy rains over Northern California into the Pacific Northwest, Temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees warmer than average across these areas. In contrast, below average temperatures are expected to push eastward from the Upper Mississippi Valley/Great Lakes region on Saturday and into the Northeast on Sunday.
