Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 349 PM EDT Tue Jun 02 2020 Valid 00Z Wed Jun 03 2020 - 00Z Fri Jun 05 2020 ...Severe thunderstorms possible across parts of the Upper Midwest, Ohio Valley, and Mid-Atlantic... ...Excessive heat likely for parts of the Southwest through Thursday... A frontal boundary moving from the Midwest/Upper Great Lakes this afternoon into the Ohio Valley and northern Mid-Atlantic tomorrow before dissipating will be a focus for showers and thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center highlights a large area from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes within a slight to enhanced risk of severe weather this evening. This area will shift southward into the Upper Mississippi Valley/Ohio Valley/northern Mid-Atlantic tomorrow where SPC has a broad slight risk extending along the frontal boundary. Back towards the west, a secondary slight risk for severe weather is possible through tomorrow across parts of the High Plains into the Central Plains ahead of another, stronger, cold front dropping into the north-central U.S.. The threat for showers and storms will expand across much of the country east of the Mississippi River on Thursday as moisture from the Gulf of Mexico rounds the western side of high pressure in the Atlantic. Localized heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms are possible within a warm and moist airmass. With the exception of Florida and south Texas, much of the remainder of the country will have above normal temperatures through Thursday. The greatest anomalies are expected across parts of the Central Plains into the Great Basin/Southwest, where temperatures are forecast to be 10 to 20 degrees above normal. Excessive heat warnings in the Southwest, and heat advisories for parts of central California are in effect where daytime highs approaching 105 to 110 are possible.
