A front extending from the Lower Great Lakes to the Middle Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains will be quasi-stationary through Thursday as the eastern end of the front moves into the Mid-Atlantic by Wednesday evening. Moisture will pool along the boundary that will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms from parts of the Northeast to the Middle Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains on Wednesday. The SPC has issued an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Northern Mid-Atlantic. The largest threat will be damaging thunderstorms wind and hail. In addition, the SPC has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorms from parts of Northern Mid-Atlantic/Ohio Valley westward to parts of the Northern/Central Plains with the main threat of damaging thunderstorms wind and hail. Over the western end of the slight risk, the main threat will be large hail possible over two inches along with damaging thunderstorms wind. Localized heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms are possible within a warm and moist airmass along and south of the front. Severe thunderstorms are also possible from the Mid-Atlantic westward along the quasi-stationary front to the Northern/Central Plains on Thursday. Another front over the Northern High Plains will move eastward to the Great Lakes by Friday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary. Temperatures will be above average over the Great Basin/Southwest, where temperatures are forecast to be 10 to 20 degrees above average. Excessive heat warnings in the Southwest, and heat advisories for parts of Central California are in effect where daytime highs approaching 105 to 110 are possible.
