Scattered to widespread thunderstorms are expected to fire up across a large portions of the High Plains to the Upper/Mid-Mississippi Valley over the next few days. The Storm Prediction Center has identified Montana, North/South Dakota and northern Minnesota has being very favorable for severe weather- WPC highlighted this region as having an elevated risk for heavy rainfall and flash flooding concerns with this system. Recent rainfall, especially closer to Minnesota, has lowered the amount of rain needed to cause ponding or rapid runoff. Flash flooding may also be possible in heavier rain areas. Across the South, a stalled frontal boundary will provide the focus for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms across the Southeast. Very warm conditions will prevail from the Corn Belt and Great Lakes/Ohio Valley, as this region will be between the two main weather systems. Across the Pacific Northwest, temperatures will be noticeably cooler after the front passes through the Interior. Much of the Southwest and portions of the Great Basin/Southern Rockies will be hot and dry- numerous counties have Excessive Heat Advisories and Red Flag Warnings.
