Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 246 PM EDT Fri Aug 07 2020 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 08 2020 - 00Z Mon Aug 10 2020 ...The heavy rain and flash flood threat will begin to diminish tonight across the east... ...There is a severe weather threat tonight from the Northern Plains into the Upper Mississippi Valley and across portions of the Central Plains on Saturday... ...Additional thunderstorm activity likely Sunday from the Northern Plains into the Upper Great Lakes... ...A fire weather risk continues from the Northern High Plains into portions of the Rockies and Great Basin... Heavy rains and localized flooding that has been focusing in the vicinity of a stationary front lying from the Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic will begin to diminish tonight. The threat of flash flooding will continue this afternoon into this evening across portions of the Mid-Atlantic where flash flood watches are in effect. However, with the expected weakening of the front and the weakening of the upper level support that has been enhancing the heavy rain potential near this front, the heavy rain and flash flood threat will be diminishing later tonight. The first of two well defined fronts moving across the northern tier of the country will support the potential for severe thunderstorms this evening into tonight/early Saturday from the Northern Plains into the Upper Mississippi Valley. Later Saturday, the severe weather threat will then focus farther to the south and west over portions of Central Plains. By Sunday, the second of the two well defined fronts moving across the northern tier will support additional thunderstorm activity from the Northern Plains into the Upper Mississippi Valley and Upper Great Lakes region. The combination of low relative humidities and windy conditions will continue to support a fire weather threat into this weekend from the Northern High Plains into portions of the Rockies and Great Basin.
