Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 317 AM EDT Sat Aug 08 2020 Valid 12Z Sat Aug 08 2020 - 12Z Mon Aug 10 2020 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Northern/Central Plains... ...Additional thunderstorm activity likely Sunday from the Northern Plains into the Upper Great Lakes... ...A fire weather risk continues from the Northern High Plains into portions of the Rockies and Great Basin... Heavy rains and localized flooding that has been focusing in the vicinity of a stationary front lying from the Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic will begin to diminish on Saturday. The threat of flash flooding will continue this afternoon into this evening across portions of the Mid-Atlantic where flash flood watches are in effect. However, with the expected weakening of the front and the weakening of the upper level support that has been enhancing the heavy rain potential near this front, the heavy rain and flash flood threat will diminish. The first of two well defined fronts moving across the northern tier of the country will support the potential for severe thunderstorms this Saturday over the Northern/Central Plains into parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley. By Sunday, the second of the two well defined fronts moving across the northern tier will support additional thunderstorm activity from the Northern Plains into the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley and Upper Great Lakes/Western Ohio Valley region through Monday. The combination of low relative humidities and windy conditions will continue to support a fire weather threat into this weekend from the Northern High Plains into portions of the Rockies and Great Basin.
