Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 AM EDT Sun Aug 09 2020 Valid 12Z Sun Aug 09 2020 - 12Z Tue Aug 11 2020 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes... ...There is a slight risk of excessive rainfall over the Upper Mississippi Valley and the Middle Mississippi Valley... ...Hot conditions persist across much of the Lower 48, fire weather risk continues in portions of the Rockies and Great Basin... A front over the Upper Midwest will move eastward to the Lower Great Lakes by Tuesday. The boundary will trigger showers and thunderstorms over the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes, some of the storms maybe severe with the main hazards dangerous lightening, damaging severe wind gust, large hail, and a few tornadoes. Some of the thunderstorms will produce heavy rain producing mainly localized scattered flash flooding over the region on Sunday. A second area of showers and thunderstorms will produce heavy rain over parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley producing mainly localized scattered flash flooding over the area also on Sunday. By Monday, the front will move into the Great Lakes to the Central Plains producing showers and thunderstorms. The boundary will begin to stall out with showers and thunderstorms developing over the Great Lakes into parts of the Ohio/Middle Mississippi Valleys into Tuesday. On Sunday high temps in the 90s are widespread from the Desert Southwest to the Mid-Atlantic coast. The coolest temperature anomalies on Sunday set up across the northern Rockies and High Plains. By Monday, the cold front passing through the northern Plains ushers in cooler temperatures to the region while conditions become hotter across the Great Lakes and Northeast. Lastly, the combination of low relative humidities and windy conditions allow for favorable wild fire conditions in parts of the Central Rockies and the Great Basin.
