A cold front sweeping across the Midwest is forecast to trigger showers and thunderstorms this evening, some of which may be severe and/or cause flash flooding. Slight Risks for both severe thunderstorms and flash flooding are in place over portions of the Upper Mississippi Valley through tonight. By Monday, convection looks to develop along and ahead of the approaching cold front and a weakening warm front over the Ohio Valley. Slight Risks for severe storms and flash flooding have been issued for parts of eastern Kansas and Missouri. By Tuesday, the cold front passes through the Great Lakes but remains draped over the Middle Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys. The cold front should also trigger spotty late day showers and thunderstorms in parts of the eastern Great Lakes and Northeast. In the West, a Pacific storm system track through the Northwest the first half of the week. The warm sector will move into the northern Rockies and High Plains while the cold front ushers cooler temperatures to the Pacific Northwest on Tuesday. The cold front could initiate a few convection over the northern Great Basin and northern Rockies, prompting the potential for dry thunderstorms in these regions and favorable fire weather conditions. Another hot afternoon for much of the eastern and southern U.S. today, including parts of the central U.S. where some heat advisories are in effect. Tomorrow, the cold front passing through the northern Plains ushers in cooler temperatures to the region while conditions become only get hotter across the Great Lakes and Northeast. By Tuesday, the most anomalously hot conditions set up across the Northeast and Southwest. Hazy, hot, and humid conditions persist in the Southeast.
