It remains an active hurricane season, with two tropical systems expected to impact portions of the U.S. early this week. As Tropical Storm Beta continues to move slowly toward the Texas Coast, Tropical Storm and Storm Surge warnings remain in effect along the Gulf Coast from the middle Texas coast to Southwest Louisiana. Within the storm surge warning areas, there is the danger of life-threatening storm surge near periods of high tide through Tuesday. Because of the storm's slow motion, Beta is expected to produce a long duration heavy rainfall event, with flooding likely from the middle Texas coast to southern Louisiana. Heavy rains are forecast to spread northward across eastern Texas, Oklahoma and the lower Mississippi valley over the next few days. In the Atlantic, Hurricane Teddy is expected to transition to a powerful post-tropical cyclone as it approaches Atlantic Canada on Tuesday. Large swells produced by Teddy are forecast to impact portions of the U.S. East Coast during the next few days. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Elsewhere, dry conditions are expected through midweek across much of U.S. High pressure, will support another day of below-normal temperatures across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Another round of freeze warnings and frost advisories are in effect for the overnight and early morning hours across portions of the Northeast and central Appalachians. Above-normal temperatures are forecast to return to much of the western U.S. on Monday, while well above-normal temperatures are expected to build across the central and northern Plains to the Upper Midwest. Gusty winds, in addition to the dry conditions are expected to introduce a new round of elevated fire weather concerns across portions of the Great Basin on Monday.
