A slow-moving front across the Upper Great Lakes will produce showers and thunderstorms over the region from Friday evening into Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms over portions of the region. Tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds are possible across far northern Wisconsin into Upper Michigan late Friday afternoon and evening. Storms are expected to develop once again on Saturday, with additional severe storms expected across northern Wisconsin. Moisture and low pressure associated with the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Beta continue to move across the Southeast, generating widespread showers and some thunderstorms. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the Carolinas through Saturday morning. The heavy rain associated with the showers and thunderstorms will produce mainly localized areas of flash flooding over the area through Saturday morning. Scattered showers associated with Beta's remnant moisture are possible in the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday. Temperatures throughout the Southeast should also moderate to seasonally mild levels on Saturday. Elsewhere, temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees above average over the central and southern High Plains. A strong cold front sweeping across the Northwest is expected to usher in colder temperatures over the northern and central High Plains. Pacific moisture will also accompany this cold front leading to periods of rain in the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies through Sunday morning. Red Flag Warnings are in effect for portions of California, the central Rockies, and the northern and central Plains. Critical fire weather conditions are occuring now, or are imminent, across these areas. Dry and windy conditions are expected to contribute to elevated fire weather concerns across portions of the western and central U.S. into the weekend.
