Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 146 AM EDT Sun Oct 04 2020 Valid 12Z Sun Oct 04 2020 - 12Z Tue Oct 06 2020 ...The Florida Peninsula remains wet/unsettled through Tuesday... ...Temperatures will be hot in the West... Over the next few days, the Western Ridge/Eastern Trough pattern aloft will deamplify, allowing the subtropical ridge to rebuild along the Gulf coast. South of the subtropical ridge, Tropical Storm Gamma and a tropical disturbance along its eastern flank across the Caribbean will send moisture up to a front initially stuck across southern Florida, which returns northwest in earnest on Monday night/Tuesday morning. This will keep rain in the forecast across the Florida peninsula through the foreseeable future, with Flood Watches remaining into effect through this evening in southeast Florida and through Monday across central and east-central Florida. The combination of cooler than average air and expected rainfall could lead to some record cool high temperatures this afternoon in Central Florida. Precipitation across the Great Lakes today will shift east across the Northeast on Monday near a cold front. On the eastern fringe of the Eastern trough, rainfall should move up the coast on Sunday and Monday briefly developing a coastal front due its reinforcement of the cold air dam, with the heaviest rains remaining offshore. For the West, heat will be stubborn to relent across the Southwest where record highs remain possible into Tuesday. Rainfall along the immediate West Coast isn't expected before Thursday. A front moving across portions of the West should lead to an increase in wind as well. This combination of factors increase area fire danger, and the ridging aloft is expected to act as a cap on pollutants and smoke from area wildfires into Tuesday, decreasing air quality as well.
