The spotlight for the second half of the week is brightest on Hurricane Delta as it exits off the Yucatan Peninsula and enters the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon. The storm is forecast to strengthen and track northwest, eventually making landfall somewhere between far southeast Texas and eastern Louisiana the second half of the day Friday. Delta is poised to strike the region with a myriad of hazards which include life-threatening storm surge, torrential rainfall and resulting urban/flash flooding, dangerous winds, and tornadoes. The National Hurricane Center and local forecast offices will have additional information pertaining to Hurricane Delta. Residents within Delta's reach should make preparations and follow the advice of local officials. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., a fairly quiet weather pattern looks to continue through Friday as high pressure continues to dominate the weather pattern. The most active weather resides in the Northeast this afternoon with strong thunderstorms and gusty winds. A Slight Risk for severe weather has been posted for parts of New England this afternoon. As the cold front traverses the region, drier conditions rush in tonight and Thursday with an exemplary fall airmass settling back in across the region to end the week. Meanwhile, temperatures are likely to feel more like late summer throughout the Intermountain West, the Plains, and Midwest. A cooler Pacific air-mass arrives on Thursday with some relief from the recent summer-like conditions. Wetter conditions are also likely to return to parts of the Pacific Northwest late Friday.
