Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 156 AM EST Tue Nov 03 2020 Valid 12Z Tue Nov 03 2020 - 12Z Thu Nov 05 2020 ...Quiet weather pattern continues with notable precipitation limited to the Northwest... ...One more day of Eastern cold, before the entire U.S. is above normal, with records in the West and Northern Plains possible... In the wake of the stronger cyclone yesterday, a weak Clipper wave moves through the Northeast today; bringing very light snow showers, perhaps a few inches in the higher elevations of the Adirondacks, Green and White Ranges. Additionally, it will bring a reinforcing shot of colder air and as such, portions of the Interior Northeast may experience the record lowest daily High temperatures. Very warm weather will continue to dominate the west and surge eastward into the northern Plains today through Thursday morning. Potential record breaking heat will extend across much of the Northern Plains and Rockies today into tomorrow with temperatures about 25 to 35 degrees above normal. While there is an isolated shot for record temperatures today in the Southwest/S California, the potential will increase Wednesday through Thursday. This shift southward is driven by a slight flattening of the upper-level ridge, as a very active Northern Pacific moisture stream slowly progresses southward into the Pacific Northwest. A parade of weak cold fronts will surge moisture and potential for rainfall, and each wave chips away the ridge, but it is a slow process and rainfall will remain limited to Western Washington and Northwest Oregon even through Thursday morning. While not a respite for the heat and the drought across the Southwest, this is a hopeful sign for a significant change in pattern toward the end of the week into the weekend.
