A strong front extending from the Middle Mississippi Valley to the Southern Rockies will move off the East Coast by Monday morning. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary over the Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley on Saturday evening into Sunday morning. The SPC has issued a Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley through Sunday morning. The hazards associated with the thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gust, hail, and tornadoes. The system will also produce rain over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes late Saturday night into Sunday. Overnight on Sunday, the snow and rain will move into the Lower Great and the Northeast on Monday. The snow will create hazardous driving condition. Meanwhile, upper-level energy moving across the Pacific Northwest and a moderate moisture connection will produce rain and higher elevation snow over the Pacific Northwest to the Northern Rockies through Monday evening. The snow will be heavy at times over the higher elevations, causing hazardous driving conditions. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are posted over the region. Additionally, as moderate to locally heavy rain is expected in lower elevations of the Pacific Northwest, isolated flooding issues are possible. Behind the front, high pressure will build over the Rockies into the Southern Plains. A strong pressure gradient will develop, producing gusty wind throughout the western and central U.S. High Wind Warnings are in place for much of the High Plains, and Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings are scattered throughout the Rockies and High Plains. Fire danger will be a threat for central and southern parts of the High Plains, given the windy conditions and low relative humidity. Elevated to Critical Risks of fire weather are in place, along with Red Flag Warnings. In addition, High Wind Watch and Wind Advisories are posted over parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes.
