A low pressure system currently developing over the southeastern U.S. will bring another around of inclement weather through much of the eastern U.S. through tonight. Areas of heavy rain over the Mid-Atlantic region will gradually move off the coast by tonight as the low pressure system intensifies more rapidly and tracks northeastward just off the southern New England coast. Colder air to the north of the storm center will support a swath of snow and ice stretching from the Ohio Valley early this morning to the interior Northeast Sunday into Monday with up to 6 inches possible in the Catskills and Downeast Maine. Ice accumulations of around 0.1 inches are also possible over parts of the central Appalachians. Rain is most likely along the immediately coast with gusty winds tonight into early on Monday as the intensifying storm passes offshore. In the West, more energetic fronts and low pressure systems will push toward the Pacific Northwest into the first week of 2021, bringing more heavy snowfall across the Cascades into the Intermountain West and northern Sierra Nevada, while dumping heavy rainfall over the lower elevations. We can expect 1-2 feet of heavy snowfall across much of the Northwest mountains, increasing to over 2 feet for parts of the northern Cascades.
