Scattered to widespread rain, and mountain snow, is tracking onshore northern California and southwest Oregon this afternoon as a low pressure system advances inland across the Pacific Northwest. Intensity of precipitation is moderate to heavy at times. Accumulations of 6 to 12 inches of snow is forecast for the higher elevations of the Olympic and Cascade Ranges. Rain and snow will persist overnight as well as expand east to the Northern Rockies by Thursday morning and snow continuing into the Northern High Plains Thursday afternoon and evening. An additional round of precipitation will be in store for the Coast and Interior Northwest as another deepening low pressure system approaches from the Pacific Ocean by Friday. A low pressure system over the Central portion of the country will track across the Gulf/Deep South toward the Southeast Coast. Showers and thunderstorms will accompany this system. Some embedded severe thunderstorms will be possible per the Storm Prediction Center. In addition to possibly becoming severe, some of these storms may cause localized areas of heavy rain near the AR-LA-TX region. Snow is also expected on the northern periphery of the precipitation shield near the Ozarks region of Missouri/Arkansas.
