Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 PM EDT Sun Oct 31 2021 Valid 00Z Mon Nov 1 2021 - 00Z Wed Nov 3 2021 ...Light to moderate snow likely from the Central Rockies to the High Plains... ...Cold front to bring cooler weather to much of the Plains and Midwest for early in the week... A much quieter weather pattern will be returning to much of the nation in the wake of the strong East Coast storm system, which is now departing New England as of Sunday evening. However, breezy to windy conditions will still be likely across the Northeast through tonight before abating later on Monday. Broad cyclonic flow across the Great Lakes along with cold air advection is expected to result in lake effect rain and snow downwind of lakes Superior, Erie, and Ontario, with snow most likely for the higher terrain downwind of the lakes. Snow is also expected from the central Rockies to western Nebraska as a modest disturbance aloft moves across this region where winter weather advisories are in effect and a few inches of accumulation will be possible. Some showers are possible across coastal portions of the Florida Peninsula, but should remain light. For the West Coast region, a storm system over the eastern Pacific will approach the coast of the Pacific Northwest and northern California by Monday morning. Portions of northwestern California and southwest may get on the order of 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, but should avoid any noteworthy flooding concerns. Snow is expected only for the highest elevations of the northern Sierra given the warmer temperatures associated with this front that should weaken shortly after moving inland. In terms of temperatures, it will be rather chilly across much of the central/northern Plains and extending eastward across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes for the beginning of the week. Highs will only be in the 30s and 40s for many of these areas, and widespread subfreezing overnight lows expected. Seasonably warm conditions can still be expected for the Desert Southwest, Texas, and the Gulf Coast region. Hamrick Graphics are available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
