From California to South Texas, Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories remain in place across much of the region, as well-above normal to record breaking temperatures are forecast to persist into the weekend. Daytime temperatures are expected to climb upwards of 10-20 degrees above normal across much of California, the Great Basin, Southwest, and Texas, reaching triple digits in many locations, with numerous records expected to fall in the coming days. With overnight lows forecast to offer little relief, the potential for heat-related illnesses will remain high across the region. While temperatures will remain above normal from Southern California to the Plains into early next week, a Pacific front will likely bring both precipitation and much cooler temperatures into Northern California by the latter half of the weekend. A pair of Pacific fronts are expected to bring widespread precipitation to the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies on Friday and through the weekend. Periods of moderate to locally heavy rains, along with melting snow, are expected to promote river and stream rises, prompting Flood Watches for portions of Washington, northern Idaho, and western Montana. Farther east, ongoing showers and storms across Kansas and Oklahoma will continue to move south and east through the remainder of the morning, with severe thunderstorms, producing damaging winds, expected across portions of Arkansas into the lower Mississippi Valley and the central central Gulf Coast region later this morning into the afternoon. In addition to damaging winds, heavy rains producing areas of localized flash flooding, are also expected across parts of eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas into the central Gulf Coast region today. While the threat for severe weather appears to be more limited, showers and storms and expected to spread into the eastern U.S. over the weekend, potentially impacting outdoor plans. Showers and storms are also forecast to develop over the northern Plains and Upper Midwest on Saturday. Some of these storms may become strong to severe, with isolated large hail and damaging winds possible. Pereira Graphics are available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
