Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to focus around a pair of surface fronts over parts of the Pacific Northwest and Northern Plains before expanding into the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast through Monday night. Pockets of heavy rainfall may develop over portions of the Upper Midwest today and tomorrow. The severe thunderstorm threat will impact parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest through Monday as well. An enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms was issued by the Storm Prediction Center for parts of central-southern Montana where the greatest threat of damaging winds are likely to be. A strong cold front will usher in substantial cooling along the West Coast and points inland today and continuing into tomorrow before weakening by midweek. Continuing dry conditions will contribute to the Critical Fire weather risk for parts of the Great Basin. Elsewhere, upper-level ridging will build over the central part of the country beginning today, which will lead to anomalous warmth for parts of the Great Plains and Midwest through midweek.
