Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 AM EDT Tue Aug 30 2022 Valid 12Z Tue Aug 30 2022 - 12Z Thu Sep 01 2022 ...Slight risk of excessive rainfall across part of Texas on Tuesday... ...Showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy, likely across the Northeast, Mid Atlantic, and Florida/the Gulf Coast... ...Prolonged and record heat wave builds over the West this week... A cold front into the East will be a focus for showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday from the Northeast southward to the Tennessee Valley and central Gulf Coast states. Locally heavy rainfall and strong to severe thunderstorms are possible. Ahead of the front, daytime temperatures into the lower 90s are forecast across the East on Tuesday, with widespread record warm overnight temperatures this morning and again Wednesday morning for many locations. Rain may linger into Wednesday along the Gulf Coast and especially Florida as the cold front sags southward into the region. Present weak upper disturbances and abundant tropical moisture interacting with the western portion of the front dropping into Texas should create a more enhanced potential for heavy to excessive rainfall Tuesday into Wednesday. WPC has highlighted parts of west-central Texas in a slight risk on the day 1 (Tuesday) ERO. A prolonged and possibly record heat wave looks to build this week as strong upper level ridging over the West supports widespread and well above normal temperatures. Daytime temperatures are forecast to climb well into the 90s or lower 100s for many on Wednesday and especially Thursday, with little relief expected overnight. Widespread record highs and warm overnight lows are likely across much of the Northwest and Great Basin. Excessive heat watches have been hoisted for portions of the interior California Valley. Temperatures could exceed 110F in parts of the Southwest, where an excessive heat warning is currently in effect.
