Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 244 AM EDT Sun Sep 11 2022 Valid 12Z Sun Sep 11 2022 - 12Z Tue Sep 13 2022 ...Flash flooding concerns over portions of the Upper Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast through Monday... ...Northwest warms up while Midwest and Southeast cool down... A powerful upper-level low will push a cold front through the Midwest and Deep South over the next couple of days. Showers and thunderstorms are expected along the front. A slight risk of excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding is in effect for portions of southern Wisconsin/Michigan and northern Illinois/Indiana today due to the arrival of the cold front from the east. Shortwave energy surging through the Southeast will draw up substantial moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and focus it over the Mid-Atlantic and northwest coast of Florida where slight risks of excessive rainfall are also in effect today. Showers and thunderstorms are also possible to form on the tail end of the cold front over the Southern Plains today. High pressure will build over the Great Plains and send below average temperatures streaming into the aforementioned regions on the backside of the cold front today before focusing on the Midwest by Monday where high temperatures are expected to be 15-25 degrees below average. Upper ridging in the West will facilitate a warming trend over the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West and Great Basin today before expanding into the Northern/Central Plains on Monday. Highs are likely to be 10-20 degrees above average in many areas. Low temperature records may be tied or broken along the West Coast tonight as the upper low associated with Kay phases with the northern stream and moves inland. Red Flag warnings are in effect for parts of northwestern Washington. Kebede Graphics are available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
