An upper low will cut across the Ohio Valley today, and move into the Northeast by Tuesday. This low will draw enough moisture up from the Gulf of Mexico to cause flash flooding concerns over parts of eastern Wisconsin into northern Michigan as well as from northern Virginia into eastern Pennsylvania/western New Jersey, where slight risks of excessive rainfall are in effect. Showers and thunderstorms will be the mode of precipitation along the cold front, which is forecast to move across the Upper Midwest and East Coast today. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the Northeast on Tuesday as the cold front moves through the region. High pressure builds on the backside of the cold front moving across the Midwest and Ohio/Tennessee Valleys today, sending high temperatures falling dramatically into the 60s, which will be 15-25 degrees below average. Temperatures begin to moderate a bit over the Midwest on Tuesday as an upper ridge shifts into the Plains. Showers and thunderstorms pick up over the Southwest and Great basin today as an upper trough begins to move across the region. Localized flash flooding is possible. The flash flood threat really picks up on Tuesday, particularly for parts of eastern Nevada and much of Utah where a slight risk of excessive rainfall is in effect. A shortwave trough moving into the Pacific Northwest may cause scattered thunderstorms to develop over portions of northeastern Washington and northern Idaho on Tuesday night. Upper ridging over the Rockies today will shift into the Great Plains on Tuesday, dragging warm air along with it. Highs in the 80s over the Northern/Central Rockies/Plains will be anywhere between 10-20 degrees above average today, then highs in the 80s to low 90s in the Northern/Central Plains will be 10-15 degrees above average on Tuesday.
