Temperatures will cool down behind a weak cold front that sweeps through this afternoon. Clear skies will allow temperatures to drop into the teens and 20s across the East tonight, which will constitute a 10-20 degree departure from normal. A quasi-stationary front draped between the Florida peninsula and Cuba will be the focus for thunderstorm activity over southern Florida today. Showers and thunderstorms will shift north into northern/central Florida on Tuesday as the front shifts northward. High pressure over much of the lower 48 will support clear conditions and the beginning of a warm trend emanating over the Central Plains today and spreading eastward later in the week. An upper-level trough will bring unsettled weather to the Pacific Northwest on Tuesday, which will be a much needed reprieve from the ongoing poor air quality gripping the region. Warmer than average temperatures will also arrive over the West Coast ahead of the aforementioned upper trough. Kebede Graphics available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
