A departing low pressure system will bring strong winds and rain showers
to the coastal Northeast while cold air advection on the backside will
generate light blowing snow showers over interior portions of New England
tonight. Northwesterly winds over the Lower Great Lakes will lead to the
development of light to moderate snow bands downwind of the Lakes through
tomorrow afternoon. Between 4-8 inches of snow are forecast to accumulate
with locally higher amounts once the precipitation winds down tomorrow.
High Wind Warnings and Wind advisories are in effect for much of the
Northeast and portions of the Allegheny Mountains.

Another area of low pressure, beneath a positively tilted upper trough,
will cut across the West over the next couple of days. Moderate to heavy
rain will focus along a cold front gliding down the West Coast through
Thursday night. Scattered thunderstorms are possible along parts of the
Pacific Northwest Coast tonight. Meanwhile, heavy snow will spread from
the Cascades and Northern Rockies tonight into the Sierra tomorrow and the
Central Rockies by Friday. Between 1-2 feet of additional snow is likely
for the Cascades, 2-3 feet for the Sierra, 1-2 feet for the Northern
Rockies and 6-12 inches for the Colorado Rockies by Friday evening. This
system will expand out over the Plains on Friday, bringing rain showers to
the Upper Great Lakes and Midwest as well as snow and gusty winds to the
Upper Midwest into the evening.

Another low pressure system arrives over the Pacific Northwest on Friday,
kicking off a weekend of unsettled weather for the West Coast.
Temperatures will drop across the East as the cold front pushes off into
the Atlantic tonight, but then rebound in time for the weekend.
Temperatures will warm to be 10-20 degrees above average over the central
third of the country on Thursday and Friday out ahead of the West Coast
system. Frigid arctic air will begin to descend upon the Northern Plains
by Friday.
