Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 300 AM EST Sat Jan 07 2023 Valid 12Z Sat Jan 07 2023 - 12Z Mon Jan 09 2023 ...Relentless parade of cyclones from the Pacific will bring more flooding rains and mountain snows to the West Coast with main focus across northern California... ...A low pressure wave will trigger showers and thunderstorms across the Deep South tonight... ...Light mixed rain and snow expected to track across the Midwest to the northern Mid-Atlantic... The stormy and unsettled weather pattern that has been impacting the West Coast is expected to persist as a parade of cyclones from the Pacific Ocean continues to aim at the West Coast. The heavy precipitation edging into northern California this morning will be reinvigorated by tonight as the next energetic system moves rapidly toward the coast in the wake of the current system. This latest surge of moisture will likely dump another few inches of rain across parts of northern California through tonight, with heavy snow arriving across the high elevations of the interior mountains, including the Sierra Nevada, by early on Sunday. A lull in the heavy precipitation is expected later on Sunday into Sunday evening. However, the next system in line is forecast to bring a potent surge of moisture once again toward northern California by Monday morning. Additional flooding issues can be expected across northern California today with a break in the precipitation later on Sunday before the next onslaught of heavy precipitation and strong gusty winds arrive early on Monday. Over the central portion of the country, a low pressure system is forecast to track eastward into the Mid-Mississippi Valley on Sunday before reaching the East Coast Sunday night. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Deep South tonight ahead of the trailing cold front. The thunderstorms are expected to head further northeast toward the Tennessee Valley Sunday morning with diminishing intensities. Colder air to the north of the low track will support light amounts of mixed rain and snow across the central Plains to the Midwest today, across the Ohio Valley on Sunday, and into the northern Mid-Atlantic Sunday night. By Monday morning, the precipitation should be in the process of moving offshore as a coastal low is forecast to form just off the Mid-Atlantic coast.
