Cold high pressure over the Upper Mississippi Valley will move eastward to
the Mid-Atlantic by Saturday and off the East Coast by Sunday. The
associated cold air will produce temperatures 15 to 35 degrees below
average over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes, Ohio
Valley, and the Northeast through Sunday. Therefore, wind Chill Warnings
and Wind Chill Advisories are posted from the Dakotas eastward to New
England. Temperatures will begin to moderate over the Northern
Plains/Upper Mississippi Valley by Sunday.

On the leading edge of the cold air will be a cold front extending from
the Mid-Atlantic to the Lower Mississippi Valley and the Southern Plains
will move eastward off most of the Eastern Seaboard by Friday evening.

Meanwhile, upper-level energy over the Great Lakes and the Northeast will
aid in producing lake-effect snow downwind from the Great Lakes through
late Saturday night. Furthermore, a wave of low pressure over a second
front over Florida will slowly move southward over the peninsula to
southeastern Florida by Saturday. The low will produce showers and
thunderstorms over parts of the Southeast through late Friday night.

Moreover, a warm front over parts of the Northern/Central Plains will move
into the Great Lakes by Saturday morning. The energy associated with the
front will produce light snow over the Upper Great Lakes early Saturday
morning through Sunday. In addition, light snow will develop over parts of
the Upper Mississippi Valley on Sunday morning.

In the meantime, upper-level energy will move onshore over the Pacific
Northwest and eastward to the Great Lakes/Ohio valley by Sunday. The
energy will produce coastal rain starting by Friday afternoon over parts
of the Northwest and Northern/Central California. Light snow will also
develop over parts of the higher elevations of Northern California.
Overnight Friday, light snow will develop over parts of the Northern
Intermountain Region and Northern Rockies. By Saturday morning, the rain
and higher-elevation snow will end over California. However, light rain
and higher-elevation snow will develop over parts of California and the
Pacific Northwest by Saturday night, expanding into the Great Basin by
Sunday Morning. The snow will become heavy over the Sierra Nevada
Mountains. The snow will result in reduced visibility and hazardous
driving conditions.
