A deep upper-level trough roughly over the Great Basin will move eastward to Northern New England by Wednesday. The system will produce snow over parts of the Northern Intermountain Region/Great Basin, Central/Southern Rockies, and Southwest through Tuesday morning. In addition, onshore flow off the Pacific will produce coastal rain and higher-elevation snow through to Wednesday. The snow will be heavy over the Cascades and parts of the Northern Intermountain Region through Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, on Monday, low pressure over the Central Plains will move northeastward to Lake Superior by Tuesday and then to the Northeast by Wednesday. Moisture will stream northward over the Mississippi Valley into the Upper Midwest. On Monday afternoon, snow will develop over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley and the Upper Great Lakes. Overnight Monday, rain will develop over parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley and expand southward into the Southern Plains. Rain will also expand into the Western Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. Light to moderate rain will develop over some areas of the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys. Near the rain/snow line, pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. The rain will move into the Lower Great Lakes/Central Appalachians on Tuesday. By Tuesday evening, as the precipitation moves into northern New York State and New England, additional patches of rain/freezing rain will develop along the rain/snow line as snow develops over parts of the region. The snow will result in reduced visibility/hazardous driving conditions and ice may cause dangerous road conditions, too. Additionally, showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Southern Plains/Lower Mississippi Valley overnight Tuesday.
