Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 244 AM EST Sat Feb 18 2023 Valid 12Z Sat Feb 18 2023 - 12Z Mon Feb 20 2023 ...Locally heavy snow to spread across the high terrain of the Northern Rockies and Northwest... A vast majority of the country will have very little if any precipitation this weekend and into the start of this coming week. However, potentially heavy mountain snow forecast forecast for the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Rockies. Northwesterly flow aloft around an eastern Pacific upper-level ridge will allow for waves of moisture to enter the region. Some of the highest snow accumulations are expected in the favored upslope areas which may reach a foot prior to Monday. Lower elevations across Idaho and western Montana may also experience lighter snowfall amounts. A chilly airmass is settling in over much of the eastern third of the country after the cold frontal passage. Lingering Lake effect snow showers are possible early today, along with upslope snow throughout the central Appalachians. Scattered showers are expected to continue along the cold front as it moves southward across the Florida Peninsula. Easterly flow will continue across the Sunshine State this weekend and allow for isolated shower chances. Lastly, in terms of precipitation, light snow may traverse the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest on Sunday, while shower chances enter Arizona and New Mexico ahead of a churning upper-level low. Below average temperatures are forecast across the southern tier on today underneath a modest high pressure system. Above average temperatures then become more widespread on Sunday (outside the Rockies and Intermountain West). Campbell Graphics available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
