An area of low pressure extending from the Upper Mississippi Valley to the Central Plains will slowly move eastward to the Upper Great Lakes/Middle Mississippi Valley by Sunday. On Friday, showers and severe thunderstorms will develop along the associated front over parts of Kansas and Nebraska. Therefore, the SPC has issued a Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central Plains through Saturday morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a minimal threat of tornadoes. In addition, there will be a threat of severe thunderstorm wind gusts of 65 knots or greater and hail of two inches or greater diameter over parts of the Central Plains. On Saturday, the threat of severe thunderstorms increases slightly as the front moves eastward into the Lower Mississippi Valley. Therefore, the SPC has issued an Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms over the Lower Mississippi Valley from Saturday into Sunday morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes. Moreover, there is an increased threat of hail two inches in diameter or greater over the Lower Mississippi Valley. On the storm s west side, snow will develop over parts of the Northern/Central Rockies on Friday, while an area of light snow will develop over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley on Saturday. Meanwhile, an upper-level low over the Southeast on Friday will create showers and thunderstorms over the region that will slowly move northward into parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley by Friday evening. On Saturday, the upper-level low weakens slightly as showers and thunderstorms extend from the Ohio Valley to parts of the Northeast. Additionally, on Friday, north of the upper-level low, upper-level ridging will allow temperatures to become 15 to 25 degrees above average over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes, and Northeast. Elsewhere, a front will move onshore over the Pacific Northwest on Saturday and dissipate, while another front moves onshore on Sunday. The systems will produce coastal rain and highest elevation snow over the Northern Cascades late Saturday morning into Sunday.
