Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 340 AM EDT Tue Jun 06 2023 Valid 12Z Tue Jun 06 2023 - 12Z Thu Jun 08 2023 ...There is a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the Central/Southern Rockies/High Plains through Thursday... ...Much cooler than average temperatures over much of California/Southwest and the Northeast... ...Air Quality Alerts over parts of the Upper Great Lakes to the Northeast... Upper-level impulses and moisture trapped under an upper-level ridge from the Pacific Northwest to the Upper Mississippi Valley and southward to the Southwest to the Central Gulf Coast will produce showers and thunderstorms through Thursday. Some of the showers and thunderstorms will create heavy rain over parts of Northeastern New Mexico on Tuesday. Therefore, the WPC has issued a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the Southern Rockies on Tuesday into Wednesday morning. The associated heavy rain will create mainly localized areas of flash flooding, with urban areas, roads, and small streams the most vulnerable. Furthermore, the showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rain, will expand northward into parts of Colorado and Wyoming on Wednesday. Therefore, the WPC has issued a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall over parts of the Central/Southern Rockies and Southern High Plains on Wednesday into Thursday morning. The associated heavy rain will create mainly localized areas of flash flooding, with urban areas, roads, and small streams the most vulnerable. Moreover, an upper-level low along the California Coast will slowly move inland and then weaken through Thursday. As a result, the system will produce showers and thunderstorms over parts of the state and the Pacific Northwest/Great Basin through Thursday. Additionally, a weak front moving southward from the Great Lakes/Northeast to the Southeast to the Tennessee/Lower Mississippi Valley and weak upper-level impulses over the Gulf Coast will produce showers and thunderstorms from the Ohio Valley/Central Appalachians to the Southeast to the Lower Mississippi Valley through Thursday. Meanwhile, an upper-level low over New England moves slowly northeastward into Southeastern Canada, then back over Maine by Thursday. In addition, the system produces scatted areas of rain with embedded thunderstorms on Tuesday. On Wednesday, rain and drizzle will return over the region. Wildfire smoke moving southward out of Canada and over the northern part of the country has triggered Air Quality Alerts over parts of the Upper Great Lakes to the Northeast. In the meantime, upper-level troughing will bring much cooler than average temperatures over much of California/Southwest and the Northeast Ziegenfelder Graphics available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
