Unseasonably cool temperatures, with showers and thunderstorms, will continue north of a cold front that has settled into southern Texas. A series of upper level disturbances interacting with a moist atmosphere is expected to produce periods of showers and thunderstorms across portions of the southern Plains over the next few days, with heavy rainfall amounts and flooding possible. It will remain unsettled, with seasonal to below-average temperatures, across much of the Southwest today as well. Then drier air will support a diminishing chance for showers and thunderstorms, as temperatures begin to climb during the latter half of the week. Farther to the north, a cold front will focus showers and thunderstorms as it advances southeast from the northern Rockies and Great Basin today, into the northern Plains, upper Midwest, and the central Rockies on Thursday. In the East, a cold front will slowly advance east today, producing additional showers and thunderstorms along the Eastern Seaboard, with heavy rainfall amounts possible, especially for parts of the Northeast. Flood watches remain in effect for at least of portion of today from eastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, and New Jersey into southeastern New York and southern New England, where locally heavy downpours may result in excessive runoff. Also along the East Coast -- even though Hurricane Lee remains well offshore, the storm is already producing dangerous surf and rip currents along portions of the Southeast Coast. These conditions are forecast to spread northward along the remainder of the East Coast over the next couple of days.
