Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 334 PM EDT Mon Oct 30 2023 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 31 2023 - 00Z Thu Nov 02 2023 ...Cold air settles over East Coast; Freeze Warnings in effect from Southern Plains to Ohio Valley through midweek... ...Snow showers spread from the Upper Midwest through the Great Lakes through Halloween... ...Atmospheric River brings moderate to heavy rainfall to Pacific Northwest beginning Wednesday... A potent cold front will push through the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Coast (sans Florida) tonight. Rain showers will linger on the backside of the front across portions of the Mid-Atlantic into Halloween (Tuesday). Temperatures will fall dramatically for much of the East over the next couple of days. Shortwave energy will support rain/snow showers for parts of the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and interior Northeast through Wednesday morning. Another shot of cold air will arrive over the Northern/Central Plains on the backside of the aforementioned shortwave. This new round of cold air may drop temperatures low enough to contend with low minimum temperature records on Wednesday from the Southern Plains to the Midwest. Freeze Warnings are also in effect from northern Texas through Arkansas and up into much of the Tennessee/Ohio Valley through this Wednesday as high pressure remains overhead. This will mark an end to the growing season for many. The first atmospheric river event of the season is likely to begin this Wednesday afternoon/evening over the Pacific Northwest as a low pressure system and associated moisture plume arrive. There will be flash flooding concerns associated with this AR, partly due to rain over snow pack in the higher elevations as well as runoff threats over saturated soils. Dry/gusty conditions over parts of southern California and the Southeast will continue to support an Elevated fire weather risk on Tuesday.
