There is expected to be continued moderation of the recent much below average temperatures across areas to the east of the Rockies. While frosts and freezes are again possible Friday morning from the Lower Mississippi Valley, Tennessee Valley, portions of the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, no widespread records are expected. The area of high pressure responsible for some of the cold morning lows will be moving offshore of the Northeast late Thursday, with milder upstream air over the mid section of the nation continuing to push eastward over the next few days. In addition to the warming trend, mostly dry weather expected from the Southwest, through the mid section of the nation and into the east, save for some coastal showers along the east coast of Florida. The wet region of the Lower 48 will continue to be the Pacific Northwest into the Northern Rockies and Northern California. Much needed rounds of precipitation are expected, bringing relief to areas of the Northwest that are experiencing Severe to Exceptional drought condition. The current initial round of precipitation in this wet pattern will continue to diminish on Thursday into Thursday night as it pushes inland into the Northern Rockies. This will be followed by another surge of above average moisture values as the next atmospheric river event brings additional heavy precipitation potential to the Pacific Northwest into northern California late Friday into Saturday, spreading inland into the Northern Rockies by Saturday night. This will then be followed by additional precipitation potential late Sunday into Monday. Oravec Graphics available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
