Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 251 PM EDT Fri Nov 03 2023 Valid 00Z Sat Nov 04 2023 - 00Z Mon Nov 06 2023 ...Modest atmospheric river activity to bring multiple rounds of beneficial precipitation across the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Rockies this weekend into early next week... ...Large areas of the country will see much warmer temperatures over the few days as Pacific air advances east across the Intermountain West and out into the Great Plains and Midwest... A series of low pressure systems advancing into western Canada will bring modest atmospheric river activity into the Pacific Northwest this weekend and early next week along with a series of frontal passages. The transport of Pacific moisture ahead of these fronts along with onshore flow will bring multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rain for the coastal ranges of Washington, Oregon and northwest California, but with some potential for locally heavy snowfall for the higher peaks of the Cascades. Some of this precipitation is expected to spillover into the higher terrain of the Northern Rockies as well. Given the ongoing drought conditions across the Pacific Northwest, this precipitation is expected to be largely beneficial as locally several inches of rain will be expected for the lower elevations. Farther south and east across the country, the story for the weekend and into early next week will be mostly dry weather and moderating temperatures. In fact, the influx of Pacific air across the Intermountain West and downstream across the Great Plains and Midwest by Sunday and Monday will allow for temperatures to surge well above normal. High temperatures should gradually reach the 60s and 70s across many areas of the Midwest and with some 80s expected farther south over the Southern Plains. Milder temperatures will also be arriving across many areas of the South and the East as temperatures here also advance above normal. Despite much of the Central and Eastern U.S. being dry, some unsettled weather may impact parts of southeast Florida this weekend, and especially on Saturday, given close proximity of a front which will encourage a threat of showers and potentially heavy rainfall. Also, increasing warm air advection and moisture arriving ahead of low pressure crossing the Northern Plains on Sunday will bring a threat of rain for portions of the Great Lakes region.
