Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Sat Nov 04 2023 Valid 00Z Sun Nov 05 2023 - 00Z Tue Nov 07 2023 ...Modest atmospheric river activity to bring multiple rounds of beneficial precipitation across the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Rockies for the rest of the weekend into early next week... ...A round of mixed light rain and snow may brush the northern borders of the northern Plains to the upper Great Lakes Sunday to Monday... ...Fair and mild weather expected to continue from the southwestern U.S. to much of the eastern U.S.... Unsettled weather is expected to prevail across the northwestern portion of the country as a series of frontal systems associated with multiple Pacific cyclones push toward the Pacific Northwest. Rounds of moderate to locally heavy precipitation can be expected through Monday as these systems move onshore. The current round of mostly rain across Washington and Oregon is forecast to push farther inland tonight and bring high-elevation snow and low-elevation rain across the northern Rockies on Sunday. As a low pressure center develops over the northern High Plains on Sunday and tracks toward the upper Midwest Sunday night, a round of mixed rain and snow may brush the northern borders of the northern Plains to possibly the upper Great Lakes starting Sunday to Monday. Rain is expected to spread from the upper Midwest later on Sunday to much of the Great Lakes Sunday night, reaching into western New England on Monday. Meanwhile, the next surge of moisture from the Pacific will reach the Pacific Northwest later on Sunday and will persist into Monday. The leading edge of the moisture will then penetrate further inland and bring the next round of elevation-dependent rain/snow across the northern Rockies on Monday. As the unsettled weather continues over the Pacific Northwest, fair and mild weather will continue from the southwestern U.S. through the central and southern Plains as well as much of the eastern U.S. for the next few days thanks to a relatively zonal upper-level flow across the southern tier of the country. Shortwave energy behind a front over the Southeast will lead to average to below average temperatures. Slightly milder than normal temperatures are expected to continue over the Pacific Northwest amid the unsettled weather.
