Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 152 PM EST Mon Nov 06 2023 Valid 00Z Tue Nov 07 2023 - 00Z Thu Nov 09 2023 ...Cooler temperatures and beneficial precipitation expected early this week across the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Rockies... ...Very warm weather including some record high temperatures can be expected along with dry conditions for much of the Central and Eastern U.S. through the middle of the week... ...Some rain to begin impacting parts of the South by Thursday... A series of cold fronts and the inland advance of Pacific moisture will maintain unsettled and generally wet conditions across the Pacific Northwest and into the Northern Rockies going through Tuesday. Locally heavy rainfall is expected for the lower elevations including the coastal ranges for Washington and Oregon, but there will be some locally heavy accumulating snowfall for the higher terrain of the Cascades. The advance of colder temperatures inland across the West will also help to facilitate some accumulating snow for the higher terrain of the northern Sierra Nevada and the Northern Rockies. Farther east across many areas of the Central and Southern Plains, Mid-South, and the Ohio Valley, increasingly warm temperatures will be the big story for the next few days as some temperatures reach as high as 15 to 25 degrees above normal with high temperatures locally reaching well into the 70s and 80s. These temperatures will likely be warm enough to break some daily high temperature records. Dry weather will continue in the near-term which will continue to aggravate the ongoing drought situation for many locations across the Central and Southern U.S. However, as the upstream cold fronts over the West begin to eject east out into the Plains by midweek, some increasing moisture ahead of it from the Gulf of Mexico will set the stage for some showers and thunderstorms to break out across areas of the South by Thursday. Elsewhere, generally cooler temperatures and some light precipitation including a mix of some rain, freezing rain, and light snow can be expected for portions of the far Northern Plains, Upper Great Lakes and northern New England heading through the middle of the week as a series of cold fronts cross the region along with nearby waves of low pressure.
