Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 309 PM EST Thu Nov 16 2023 Valid 00Z Fri Nov 17 2023 - 00Z Sun Nov 19 2023 ...Heavy rainfall and threat for flash flooding across the eastern Florida Peninsula tonight... ...Wet/unsettled weather in the West through the weekend... ...Above average temperatures from the Midwest to East Coast Friday; Northern/Central Plains warm up this weekend... The heavy rain and wind threat continues along a quasi-stationary surface front draped along the central Florida Atlantic Coast tonight. There's a Slight Risk (at least 15%) of Excessive Rainfall Leading to Flash Flooding for the area extending from near Fort Lauderdale up to around Palm Coast where 1-1.5" of rain is likely and isolated maxima of between 3-4"+ are possible. The heavy rain and winds clear out on Friday. A cold front moving across the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast will be a focus for showers and isolated thunderstorms over the next couple of days. Temperatures out ahead of the front will be above average as southerly flow pumps warm air into the Midwest and East Coast through at least tonight before the cold front passes and temperatures begin to moderate. Upper ridging will build over the Plains leading to above average temperatures for the region this weekend. Meanwhile, a deep upper-level low will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to California and snow to the Sierra Nevada this weekend. The upper low will phase with a northern stream trough and expand rainfall coverage into the Pacific Northwest on Saturday. Snow levels will drop as cool air filters into the region, supporting heavy snow over the Cascades on Saturday and Sunday.
