Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 225 AM EST Mon Dec 11 2023 Valid 12Z Mon Dec 11 2023 - 12Z Wed Dec 13 2023 ...Heavy Rain and Snow over parts of Northeast/Mid-Atlantic will mostly come to an end today with lingering Excessive Rainfall concerns over Downeast Maine... ...Below average temperatures for much of Eastern U.S. today... Things will quiet down considerably once the dynamic low pressure system that is producing snow over the Northern/Central Appalachians and rain/thunderstorms over the East Coast moves into the Atlantic later today. In the meantime, showers and thunderstorms are expected across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Coast. There's a Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall for parts of Downeast Maine where high rain rates convection may cause Flash Flooding through this afternoon. Moderate to heavy snow is also likely within the cold sector of this system over portions of northern New England and the interior Northeast today. Temperatures will be below average across much of the East Coast behind the strong cold front moving into the Atlantic today. High pressure will build in over much of the central and eastern U.S. over the coming days, which will lead to seasonable temperatures for those parts of the country. Freeze Warnings are in effect for portions of the San Joaquin Valley tonight and Tuesday night as temperatures fall to as low as 28 degrees. Mountain snow over portions of the Northern Rockies above 4000' may lead to reduced visibility and slick roads today. Otherwise, the lower 48 will be relatively quiet for the start of the work week.
