Tropical moisture present over the Gulf will interact with a front draped along the Gulf Coast and produce periods of showers and thunderstorms across the region over the next several days. Storms will focus over portions of Texas beginning this evening. There's a Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall leading to Flash Flooding over parts of central Texas through Tuesday as storms capable of producing high/efficient rain rates impact the area. The focus for showers and storms shifts to the Gulf Coast and Lower Mississippi Valley on Wednesday. Elsewhere, an amplifying upper-level ridge will support warmer air to flow into the West this week. Temperatures in the 90s to 100s up and down the West Coast will represent +10-20 degree departures from normal. Excessive Heat Watches are in effect for much of the Desert Southwest ahead of what will be a hot mid-end of the week for the region. Critical Fire Weather day continues into the early evening across portions of the Central Great Basin and Northern Plains where strong winds associated with a pair of low pressure systems propagating through the region and drier than normal conditions will could promote fires. Temperatures remain around or below average across the Eastern U.S. this week beneath an area of surface high pressure centered over the Midwest.
