Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 351 PM EDT Mon Oct 21 2024 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 22 2024 - 00Z Thu Oct 24 2024 ...Scattered thunderstorms (including some severe) possible in the Central Plains today... ...Lingering unsettled weather in the Pacific Northwest... ...Well above-average temperatures continue over the Central and Eastern U.S... The forecast remains on track for a compact frontal system in the High Plains to drive scattered thunderstorms across the Heartland today, some of which could be severe. The Storm Prediction Center continues to monitor west-central Kansas and adjacent portions of Nebraska over the next several hours for thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps a tornado this afternoon and evening. Otherwise, the pattern over much of the CONUS should remain fairly tranquil for the next several days. Cool, unsettled weather will linger across the Pacific Northwest tonight as a cold front weakens overhead before conditions improve tomorrow. Across the Central and Eastern U.S., well above-average temperatures in the 70s and 80s will continue through midweek, which could topple a handful of daily high temperature records each day.
