High pressure over upstate New York on Sunday will move eastward to off the New England Coast by Tuesday. The high pressure will bring temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below average over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Moreover, a wave of low pressure over the Upper Midwest on Sunday will move eastward off the Northeast Coast by Tuesday evening. The system will produce light snow over parts of the Northern Plains on Sunday evening. Along the rain/snow line, areas of light rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the region through Monday night. On Sunday evening into Monday, the storm will create light to moderate snow over parts of the northern portion of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The snow will wind down over Michigan on Monday evening into Tuesday. Early on Monday morning, rain will develop over parts of the Ohio, Middle/Lower Mississippi Valleys, and Southern Plains. Further, along the rain/snow line, pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the Great Lakes and Upper Mississippi Valley. Overnight Monday, as the wave of low pressure moves into the Northeast, light to moderate snow will develop over the region. Rain will develop along the southern edge of the precipitation shield over parts of the northern Mid-Atlantic. On Tuesday morning, along the rain/snow line, pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop. In addition, on Monday, return flow off the Gulf of Mexico will stream moisture over the Southern Plains, producing showers and thunderstorms overnight, Monday through Tuesday. Similarly, moisture off the Atlantic will stream northward over the southern Mid-Atlantic, producing light rain over the area Monday evening into Tuesday. Early on Tuesday morning, a few pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of North Carolina. Meanwhile, on Sunday, moisture associated with a dying front along the West Coast will create light rain, higher-elevation snow over parts of the Pacific Northwest, and light rain over Northern California. As the moisture moves farther inland, light snow will develop over parts of the Northern Intermountain Region overnight Sunday into Monday. Overnight Monday into Tuesday, a front over the Eastern Pacific will move onshore over the West Coast and into the Great Basin/Southern California by Tuesday afternoon. The system will bring more moisture onshore, producing light rain over the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. As the front passes, rain will turn over to snow over parts of the higher elevations of the Northwest and Northern/Central California on Tuesday.
