Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 210 PM EST Wed Feb 26 2025 Valid 00Z Thu Feb 27 2025 - 00Z Sat Mar 01 2025 ...Series of clipper systems to bring rain and snow showers to the Upper Midwest and Northeast through early weekend... ...Above to well above-average temperatures expected to persist for most of the country... The forecast remains on track for an initial clipper system in the Midwest to continue northeastward today and pass through the Northeast tomorrow. Scattered to widespread rain showers with some moderate rainfall is expected through the central/southern Appalachians tonight, spreading to southern New England and the Mid-Atlantic by tomorrow morning. Light to locally moderate snow showers are anticipated in the overnight hours across the Lower Great Lakes, interior Northeast, and upper New England, especially for favorable lake-effect locations and higher elevations. By Friday morning, a stronger clipper system is forecast to track across the Upper Great Lakes, which will bring renewed chances of light to locally moderate snowfall to the region. The rest of the country will remain mostly dry the next couple of days. The trend of relatively warm weather will persist through Friday for much of the Lower 48 as 10 to 20 degree above-average temperatures continue ahead of a stronger early weekend cold front. For the East, forecast highs tomorrow generally range in the 30s and 40s for New England, the 50s and 60s for the Mid-Atlantic, and the 70s in the Southeast. Across the Central U.S. and Intermountain West, highs should range from the 50s to 60's, with some 70 to 80 degree highs possible in the Southwest.
