Two low pressure centers will continue to focus isolated-scattered showers and thunderstorms along a pair of associated cold fronts across the Ohio Valley into the Gulf Coast states. After a soaking rainfall swept through this morning, additional development could yield scattered flash flooding in a relatively confined area over portions of the Central Appalachians, including over the Pittsburgh metro where a Flood Watch is in effect. To the south and west of the main excessive rainfall area, SPC has outlooked several focused areas over the Mid-Atlantic, Gulf Coast, and Ozarks for the threat of scattered severe storms capable of producing large hail, strong winds, and a tornado or two. Additional severe weather is possible tomorrow over the Southern Plains, although when compared to the recent widespread coverage of severe and flash flooding the pattern for the next two days appears far more tranquil. Rainfall aside, an upper low parked over the Great Lakes and Northeast will facilitate cooler temperatures across the Northern Plains, Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic for the next several days. High temperatures in the 40s, 50s and low 60s will represent temperature anomalies between 20-35 degrees below average. Meanwhile, an upper ridge in the West and central U.S. will produce above average temperatures across the Southern and Western U.S.. Some high minimum temperature records may be tied or broken in Florida and southern California. Meanwhile, moderate to locally Major HeatRisk will increase over south Texas beneath a building upper ridge through the rest of the week.
