Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 332 AM EDT Mon Sep 08 2025 Valid 12Z Mon Sep 08 2025 - 12Z Wed Sep 10 2025 ...There is a Slight Risk (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central/Southern High Plains on Monday... ...There are Air Quality Alerts over parts of the Northwest, along with Frost Advisories over parts of the Upper Midwest and Northeast... A front extending across the Gulf Coast States and over the Southeast will slowly move out over the Gulf while lingering over Florida through Wednesday. The boundary will aid in developing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Gulf Coast and Florida through Wednesday morning. Waves of low pressure will move along the front over the Atlantic, streaming moisture westward into parts of the Eastern Seaboard, producing light rain along the Coast as far northward as New England by Wednesday. Additionally, moisture flowing northward from the western Gulf and upper-level energy will produce showers and severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central/Southern High Plains. Therefore, the SPC has issued a Slight Risk (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central/Southern High Plains through Tuesday morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes. Further, on Tuesday, the moisture and upper-level energy will produce showers and strong to severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central/Southern High Plains. Meanwhile, upper-level energy moves over the Northwest from Monday into Wednesday as a weak front moves onshore over California overnight Monday, advancing to the Great Basin/Southwest by Wednesday. The system will produce rain during the morning and late nighttime hours, and showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon into the late evening over parts of the Northwest and California. The showers and thunderstorms will move into the Northern/Central Rockies by Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. An area of cold high pressure over the Ohio Valley has prompted Frost Advisories across parts of the Upper Midwest and Northeast from early morning to late morning hours. Furthermore, smoke from wildfires has prompted Air Quality Alerts over parts of the Northwest. Ziegenfelder Graphics available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
