Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 AM EDT Wed Oct 08 2025 Valid 12Z Wed Oct 08 2025 - 12Z Fri Oct 10 2025 ...Moisture will increase in the Southwest ahead of Hurricane Priscilla over the next few days and bring a threat of flash flooding... Some influx of moisture is forecast to continue across portions of Arizona and New Mexico today with a weak front at the surface. This will lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms for these areas, and a Marginal Risk (level 1/4) is in place for isolated flash flooding potential today, with burn scars at particular risk. Into Thursday, moisture from what is currently Hurricane Priscilla is forecast to continue streaming northward and produce locally heavy rain across the Desert Southwest into the Four Corners region, with isolated instances of flash flooding. This will only be the start, as heavy rain and flash flooding potential from Priscilla's moisture should continue across the Southwest late week into the weekend. Farther east, rain will be ongoing today across the Eastern Seaboard as a cold front passes through. Precipitation will clear by this evening into tonight across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, while some scattered showers and thunderstorms could continue in the Southeast and south into Florida into Thursday. The Atlantic coast of Florida could see a rainfall focus on Thursday into Thursday night, with isolated flooding possible particularly for urban areas. Meanwhile in the Pacific Northwest, shower chances will spread inland today into Thursday ahead of an incoming frontal system, with the chance some snow may mix in for some of the higher mountain peaks. The cold front moving through the East will cool temperatures to feel more like Fall today and especially by Thursday, when highs in the 50s are forecast for the Northeast and 60s should extend into the Carolinas. Cold low temperatures could drop near or below freezing from the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes into the central/northern Appalachians and parts of the Northeast/northern Mid-Atlantic this morning and Thursday morning, prompting Freeze Warnings and Watches and Frost Advisories. Meanwhile above normal temperatures are likely across the Intermountain West into the northern Plains today, expanding into the rest of the central U.S. Thursday as an upper ridge builds. This will yield highs in the 70s and 80s, with low 90s continuing in parts of Texas. The West Coast can expect temperatures to cool due to a cold front, however.
