Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 1213 PM EDT Mon Oct 20 2025 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 21 2025 - 00Z Thu Oct 23 2025 ...Lake effect thunderstorm bands possible near Lake Erie on Tuesday and Wednesday... ...Late October warmth cross the southern Plains on Tuesday highs climbing well into the 80s and 90s... The general flow pattern features amplifying/strengthening troughs near the West and East Coasts with building ridging across the Southern/Central Rockies northward into Alberta. With downslope flow off the Rockies favored in this flow pattern, the pattern should be generally. Coolness and breezy/windy conditions behind the deep layer cyclone in southeast Canada lead to persistent Lake Enhanced/Lake Effect showers and thunderstorms most intense near and downwind of Lake Erie Tuesday and Wednesday while various disturbances/fronts helping to reinforce the Eastern trough keep the Northern Mid-Atlantic States and New England showery/unsettled into Wednesday. Across portions of the Plains, due to increasing ridging/warmth, will be above average temperatures, with 90s across portions of Texas challenging daily record highs. Due to breezy and dry conditions, there is an enhanced risk of fire weather concerns across north-central Texas on Tuesday. Despite increasing winds, increased moisture from the Gulf should limit fire weather concerns for the southern Plains on Wednesday. Across the Northwest, rain doesn't enter the picture until an incoming, though weakening, cold front moves into their vicinity Wednesday night.
