Probabilistic Heavy Snow and Icing Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 444 PM EDT Wed Mar 25 2020 Valid 00Z Thu Mar 26 2020 - 00Z Sun Mar 29 2020 ...California to the Central Plains... A stalled low-to-mid level front extending from the central Rockies back into central California will continue to provide a focus for periods of organized heavy precipitation, including high elevation snow into Wednesday. Areas impacted are expected to include portions of the southern Sierra, the west-central Nevada and far east-central Utah mountains, as well as the northern Wasatch and Uintas. For the Day 1 period (ending 00Z Friday), WPC PWPF continues to show high probabilities for accumulations of 8-inches across the higher terrain. As the associated upper trough begins to pivot east, this band is expected to shift farther southeast on Friday. Meanwhile, surface low pressure developing east of the Rockies will support snows developing along the Front Range and the southeastern Wyoming ranges on Friday, with marginal boundary layer temperatures keeping accumulations in check over the High Plains. ...Pacific Northwest... Mountain snows are expected to return to the Pacific Northwest and northern California, with potentially heavy amounts over the Olympics and northern Cascades, as a shortwave trough approaches the coast on Saturday. For Days 1-3, the probability of significant icing (0.25-inch or greater) is less than 10 percent. Pereira
